Exceptional showcase for region’s finest
Calls are out to attract the region’s top craftspeople to showcase their products at an exciting new art and craft market to be established in Geelong.
Piccadilly Market – to be launched in Geelong in March - will be unlike any market Geelong has seen before. Piccadilly brings together the highest of quality, stylish and contemporary home wares, clothing, jewellery, art works and food, from some of the State’s most talented designers and producers of fine handcrafts.
Piccadilly Market is the brain-child of Geelong’s innovative market manager Janina Lear – the face behind the highly successful Geelong Children’s and Baby Market..
“Geelong has never seen anything like Piccadilly Market before, but there are similar concepts in most of Australia’s capital cities and they’ve been very successful” Janina said. “I wanted to create something unique and exceptional like the fantastic markets they have in London like Portobello Market”.
Piccadilly Market will take place at the spectacular Deakin University Waterfront café overlooking the bay. It is currently scheduled to operate three times a year but there is opportunity for more dates to be added to this pending demand.
There has already been a huge amount of interest from craftspeople in the Geelong region wanting to be a part of the Market, and applications will stay open for the next two weeks to attract some of the State’s top craft talent. Applications will then be assessed on their ‘fit’ for the market and quality of their products.
“I am committed to ensuring this is not your average, run of the mill merchants selling their old stuff that they don’t want anymore,” Janina said. “We are looking for people with a true talent for creating beautiful, unique objects that someone will buy and really appreciate”.
“I would encourage anyone who has a unique product or craft to apply to be a part of Piccadilly Market. It may be for jewellery making, painting or sculpting furniture, it doesn’t matter. I want this to be a diverse, high quality market so I hope a wide range of craftspeople apply”.
Applications for Piccadilly Market close Friday 18 December – with the first market to take place at Deakin Waterfront Campus on Sunday 28 March. For more information or to obtain an application to be a vendor please contact Janina Lear on 0411 131 064 or email janinastoolbox@gmail.com.
