OMG!!! The best dessert ever

Friday, September 07, 2012

For those of you who know, my bestie Peggy and I try and do a Luscious Ladies Lunch (LLL) once every month or two. Total decadence and total escapism from working at home alone at our desks. We are slowly making our way across the Bellarine.  Yesterday we found ourselves at Terindah Estate for Peg's Birthday and boy was it a treat.

The Original Hay Shed of the Terindah Property was converted to an events space in 2003 and commenced operating as a Cafe  in April, 2012.

The Shed @ Terindah has floor to ceiling glass walls with wonderful views of the vineyard and spectacular vistas across the bay. We could see the whole Melbourne City skyline in one direction and the You Yangs in the other. At the moment the vibrant yellow of the canola fields is extra stunning.

We were greeted by the lovely Tristen who looked after us so well, we felt very spoilt. He began the lunch with a wine tasting and I have to tell you we were genuinely surprised at how amazing the wines were.

The stand outs for me were the Champenoise Sparkling, the 2010 Pinot Gris ( I could drink that all afternoon) and the 2009 Pinot Noir that was super smooth and delicious. At $5 it is well worth starting your meal this way.

The menu is ever changing as it uses what is fresh and in season at the time. We decided to be surprised and have a sampling of everything. Great decision.

We started our meal with some local chorizo and Manzanillo olives and Pickled calamari with dill.

We also had some yummy port arlington mussels with a sweet tomato sauce but my photo has disappeared into cyber space but trust me it was great.

Stop for Birthday Present Time

Next was a rare beef salad (super duper tender) with fennel and celeriac remoulade and an organic quince glazed chicken with mash.  Are you drooling yet????

Now for the total amazing best ever OMG dessert. I really am putting it all on the line to say it was possibly the best dessert I have ever had. An amazing Catalan Cream which is the spanish version of a Creme Brulee. My Mum always told me never to lick my plate but on this occasion I just had to. No one but Peggy saw and of course all of you now.

To finish a lovely cup of tea and some cheeses, we would have said yes to another glass of wine but being sensible driving girls we declined.

I am already looking forward to a return visit on a summers day when the doors are all open and the kids can run on the lawn.  Get in while you can, once people discover this gem I can see a long waiting list to get in. Girls day or night, family gathering, special occasions and date nights...this ticks all the boxes.

We just had to have a little frolic along the canola fields on our way out.

The Shed @ Terindah Cafe is open daily from 10am to 4pm and let them know Piccadilly sent you.
