In the Spotlight: My Fairy World

The next business in the Spotlight is My Fairy World. Not only new to Piccadilly Market on 1 December but a brand new business that I know a lot of young girls are going to LOVE.

Tell us a little about yourself?
I am 32 years old, married with a beautiful daughter. I have worked in an industry that I love for more than 15 years loving my job every-day. I was a working mum who was committed to both my family and the industry and work I loved. With my daughter entering Kinder/School year I decided to take a year to spend one on one time with her and challenged my creative mind to develop something I loved and believed in as much as my full-time/successful & much loved employment. The idea and concept of My Fairy World has been a 18month project/development, everyday offers a new idea, a new challenge and now I enjoy loving my old job, being excited about my new job and spending time with my daughter too.

How did you come up with your business name?
A business name to me is a name that identifies your product. My range of beautiful Fairy Doors and accessories create a “WORLD”

Tell us how your product/range came about?
My Fairy World is a range of miniature fairy doors and accessories that can create a “Fairy World”. Place your door high on a shelf, on a wall in your bedroom or outside in the garden. Leave letters to your fairies and they will respond with words of love, encouragement and support. Beautiful felt accessories that compliment your Door. It’s time to believe in the magic of fairies.
My Fairy World products encourage imagination and creative thinking that can be shared throughout the family. The range was created to help encourage children to explore their creative mind. It also came about from a collective love of beautiful products and a love of fairies (from my daughter and her cousin)

How long have you been in business for?
Its new… 18months in planning but brand new Launch November 2013

What inspires you?
My daughter, she is the inspiration for my business. Standing back and watching your children grow, change and develop. Watching the world they live in slowly go from rose coloured glasses to “life”. My Fairy World is a belief that magic exists… that good things will always come… It’s so much more than just a door on a wall, it’s about creating active minds that develop self-awareness, strength and self-identity

Have you always been ‘crafty’ or has it bloomed later in life?
I have always loved making, creating, designing, drawing from the moment I could. I’ve tried everything when it comes to being “crafty” whether I succeeded or not is another thing… but I always try (my motto in life)

What is something cool that most people wouldn’t know about you?
I’m not sure that anyone that knew me would ever describe anything that I do as ‘COOL’. I have a fear of birds or things that flap! And I have a small addiction to Skin Care Products. It comes with the trade.
I also have a plot at a local community garden where I love learning from older generations the skills to growing vegetables successfully. ‘I’m learning’!

If money was no object what would be your dream destination?
Paris & Tuscany I would love to spend a month in each city to explore the laneways, the places untouched by tourists. I will come with you
oh and the Himalayas… colour, inspiration, ethical standard felt production companies…WOW I would love to meet the woman who help allow me to create such beautiful products. They work and live for their families to support and protect them whilst maintaining a strong family environment. So important to me

What are you reading right now?
I would love to write a book title – something inspiring but in reality… its BLOG’s, magazines like ‘Frankie”, children’s magazines and online business hints and tips. The common title is “How to write an amazing BLOG”… PIN for success.. the list goes on!

What is your favorite website(s) ?
PINTEREST! My husband tells me a waste way to many hours on the IPAD looking at “that” site… My answer – “its business research”. One word ADDICTED!  Men will never understand the Pinterest addiction
Oh an www.larkstore.com.au

What is on your Christmas wishlist?
Ohh this is a hard question… My dream a CHLOE handbag!
Reality = a beautiful Christmas decoration from my daughter & mum (we have a tradition to pick one for each other each year),

I collect crockery cups, plates, bowls from a beautiful brand called “PIP” so my wish is always something to add to my collection. I know each piece and who has given it to me. I use them often to eat breakfast, think about the person whilst I enjoy my meal. How lovely

I LOVE this

It is that time of year when we need to start making the all important list. I must admit I do struggle a bit with teachers gifts. I want to be original and make sure it is something they will like and not want to throw back at me, like the 20th box of Roses chocolates. A day out at the Finders Keepers market

On Saturday I had a lovely day to Melbourne to visit the Finders Keepers market which is always such a treat. It is always nice for me to just shop and relax and find cool new things.

I went with the delightful Miss Peggy as a LLDO (Luscious Ladies Day Out) starting with a fun road trip of verbal diarrhoea that we so love to do.

and we met my beautiful Mummy who was hand delivering her book that she has been writing for the past 5 years that has finally been published. We thought it was a perfect reason to have a celebratory wine.

From here we spied the amazing Betsy behind the Frankie stand and we got a sneaky peek inside. Sooooooooo on my wish list to have one of these.

Our first unique discovery that Miss Peggy was jumping up and down about were these Crafternoon Kits from Freckles and Ginger (totally cute name). This is perfect for the person who wants to try their hand at sewing but the idea of it is all too hard. The pattern pieces are printed onto the fabric and everything you need like pins, zips etc are included. No driving back and forth to Spotlight anymore. These got a big tick of approval from us.

How adorable is this machine?

The next think that has me squealing for joy were these Treasure Boxes from foolhouse. I love them. I think all kids and teenagers need a place to lock away their special things. My Dad gave me an old tin lock box that is very ugly but I still have it filled with my momentos. I am thinking of one each for my kids for Christmas. You can order them with a name on the box also.

They also had this fab tea towel that a few of us women could relate to.

Next up was this cool Melbourne teapot and am totally crushing the 100's and 1000's pillowcase from the fabulous make me iconic

Then I discovered the amazing knitted products from Wic and Folk. I love the giant needles and was treated to a mini demo. I made a cute video but it is not playing nice and uploading. I am teaching Miss L who is 8 to knit, was having a giggle thinking of her trying to learn on these.

Miss Peggy (and me too) love a flamingo so this awesome pillow from The Club of Odd Volumes absolutely came back to Geelong with us for Pegs caravan, which I am completely envious over by the way.

Another cool discovery were these lovely little embroidered treats from dandelyne. You can send in a photo and have a custom made pendant. We thought this was very us.

and how cute are these?

They have some little do it yourself kits that tickled my fancy.

These little plates from Linogirl have gone straight to my wish list. Christmas present anyone?

All in all a great day, could have spent wayyyyy more than I did but have a big list for next time. These are the things I did buy.

Cute note cards from Able and Game

Loving my new light as a feather felt necklace from Cloth Poppy

This handy little notebook from Mi Goals

Hope you enjoyed this market update. Keep supporting the small local businesses.
